You’re Invited: Join us on the Road to Alaska!
I’m not sure if I’ve ever been this excited to share a blog post with you all! I mentioned this trip in our 2019 Travel Plans and Goals, but now it’s official—we’re journeying to Alaska this summer. And you’re invited! Since the cat’s out of the bag (which is a very weird saying IMHO) let’s jump right into all the juicy Alaska details, shall we?
What Exactly is the Journey to Alaska all About?
Alaska has been one of our dream destinations for a long time. “Why?” you might wonder. For starters, there’s a place called the Valley of 10,000 Smokes. If that’s not the most badass name ever, I’m not sure what is. More than half of the US national parkland is in Alaska including 8 official national parks. Of the 20 highest mountain peaks in the US, Alaska is home to 17 including the tallest in North America—Denali. Oh yeah, and there are 100,000 glaciers and over 322 million acres of public lands to explore. Alaska is truly a nature lover’s dream.
The thing we’re most excited about though? Meeting up with awesome folks like you!
One of the things that has inspired us the most on our travels has been the incredible humans that we’ve encountered along the way. We’ve met unexpected friends, social media friends turned IRL friends, and even joined a cult at one point—kidding, kidding! We’re not culty, I promise (says every person in a cult, right?). I digress.
My point is that this trip is about more than just our journey. It’s about community, travel, the outdoors, and connections. We’ve been so inspired by all you amazing people out there, that we want to meet even more and help others achieve their travel goals.
Maybe you’ve always dreamed of going to Alaska, but don’t want the typical cruise experience? Or maybe you’ve thought of driving there, but just don’t know where to start planning? We’re going to help. Read on to see what type of information we’ll be sharing and how exactly this will all work.
What We’ll be Sharing
While Alaska will undoubtedly be an amazing adventure, it also comes with its own set of challenges. This will be some of the most remote and rugged terrain we’ve yet to encounter. This trip will challenge our new lifestyle of minimalism, living outdoors, long-distance travel (by vehicle that is), and of course budget travel (Alaska certainly isn’t known for being a budget destination).
Planning a long trip like this into isolated regions requires a lot of preparation. Trust me, you don’t even want to see the spreadsheets, notes, and lists I have going. Fortunately, I love a good planning and organizational challenge.
A lot of research and planning has already gone into this trip and we don’t want to keep all this info to ourselves. Our main goal of this site is to help others fulfill your travel dreams and have the best possible experiences by sharing what we’ve learned and recommend. So that’s what we’re going to do.
Over the next few months we’ll be sharing route and timeline details, “how to” guides for preparing your vehicle, packing lists, and tips for a long-distance road trip. We’ll provide the tools, resources, itineraries, and information for you to plan your own epic (yup, even dropping that over-used word) trip to Alaska.
Can’t go this year? That’s okay, we’ll find all the best places and as usual make all the mistakes, so you don’t have to. In addition to pre-trip planning tools, we’ll also be writing about the places we visit—providing detailed guides and itineraries. Eventually we’ll have an entire Alaska road trip guide on this site.
How Will Alaska Road Trip Meet-Ups Work?
We want to be super clear that isn’t any type of official organized tour or event. Simply put, we’re planning a long trip to Alaska. We knew that it was going to be a lot of work so we’re going to share what we’ve learned with this community. Our goal is to help you plan an amazing adventure and if you make the trek there this year, we’d love to meet-up with you along the way.
We’ll be in Alaska for 3 months this summer in Stan the Tan Van. We don’t expect anyone to join for the entire trip. Seriously, you wouldn’t want to listen to our corny jokes for that long😉 Instead next week we’ll share our itinerary and timeline. This will give you an idea of generally where we’ll be and when. If you’re interested in meeting up for part of the trip, send us an email or DM us on Instagram or Facebook and we can work out the details. With long-term travels like this it’s inevitable that unexpected things will arise and it’s likely that some timelines will change, but that’s all part of the adventure.

Heck yea dudes! This sounds amazing. I’m not sure where we’ll be … but there is a chance we might be free’d up for another round of vanventures by summer. Alaska is something we still toss into conversations after meeting you two. Either way … just stoked to see you making your dreams a reality!
Would be so awesome to see you guys again! Happy to hear that there might be more vanventures in the future. Definitely let us know if you’re out and about this summer. Take care! xoxoxo
